It has been a busy day of growth in the greenhouse as we tracked conditions from the early morning hours through the late afternoon. The environment warmed up considerably, starting at a cool 19.28°C and climbing to a peak of 27.18°C. This rise in temperature was accompanied by plenty of sunshine, with light levels reaching as high as 1615 lux, providing our herbs with a strong dose of energy for their midday photosynthesizing.

We observed some notable activity in soil moisture levels today, particularly with the basil. Early in the morning, the basil’s moisture spiked to 71.04% before gradually tapering off to 49.87% by late afternoon. The chilli plants remained more consistent, ending the day at 51.87%, while the oregano continues to be our driest plant, dipping to a low of 36.31%. These shifts suggest the plants were actively transpiring as the greenhouse warmed up.

The herbs themselves reached comfortable internal temperatures, with the basil and oregano both peaking around 25°C. Our water supply stayed much cooler than the surrounding air, averaging 20.26°C throughout the day. This temperature difference provides a refreshing contrast for the root systems even as the ambient humidity dropped from a morning high of 48.4% down to 36.9% by the final reading.

As we move into the evening, the air pressure has remained steady, hovering between 999 and 1001 hPa. With the light levels beginning to fade from their midday peaks, the greenhouse is settling into a calm state. We will continue to monitor the moisture levels across all three herb varieties to ensure they remain within their ideal ranges after this afternoon’s warmth.
