April 7 Afternoon Update: A Warm and Dry Day for the Greenhouse

The afternoon sun brought a noticeable shift in our greenhouse atmosphere today. By the time the sun began to set around 5:30 PM, the ambient humidity had dropped significantly from the morning levels, settling into the low 30s. While the air felt quite dry with humidity dipping as low as 28%, the temperature remained pleasantly mild, hovering around 22°C before cooling slightly to 21.8°C by the end of our monitoring window.
Inside the growing beds, the plants responded well to the warming trend. The basil and chilli pots warmed up steadily throughout the day, reaching temperatures near 21.5°C. Interestingly, the water reservoir also warmed up, climbing from roughly 17.4°C in the early morning to a comfortable 19°C by late afternoon. This suggests the system is holding heat effectively without overheating.
One of the most dynamic changes occurred in the soil moisture readings, particularly for the chilli plants. While the basil and oregano saw a steady rise in moisture retention as the day progressed, the chilli plants experienced a dramatic increase, jumping from about 27% moisture in the morning to over 55% by evening. This rapid change indicates a significant watering event or sensor calibration occurred during the late afternoon hours.
By contrast, the oregano started the day with healthy moisture levels around 49% but finished at a peak of 58%, suggesting it absorbed water well as the day warmed. The basil also showed a strong gain in moisture, ending the day at its highest point of the cycle. Overall, the greenhouse remained stable with no critical warnings, though the dry air and fluctuating soil levels remind us to keep an eye on the chilli plants as they recover from their hydration surge.
