Greenhouse Update: A Sunny Afternoon for Our Herbs

The afternoon sun brought a noticeable shift to our greenhouse environment on March 30th, warming the air from a comfortable morning start of roughly 18°C up to a peak near 23.5°C by midday. This rising temperature was mirrored in our individual plant zones, with basil reaching its highest point at around 21.6°C while chilli plants warmed slightly more slowly but consistently alongside their neighbors.
Light levels were particularly interesting today, starting very low just after dawn and building to a bright peak of over 1000 lux before tapering off again by late afternoon. As the sun climbed higher, humidity dropped in sync with this heating up, falling from an initial high of nearly 45% down to about 38%. This created those classic dry air conditions that often accompany sunny weather indoors.
Our soil moisture sensors are providing a clear picture of how our plants are coping with the heat and light. Basil is holding its ground well around 64% moisture, while oregano sits comfortably near 53%. The chilli plant shows it needs attention soon as its moisture level has dipped toward the lower end of the range at just over 42%, a natural result of that intense midday sun pulling water from the soil.
No alarms are flashing on our dashboard today, and all systems seem to be functioning within their expected parameters for this season’s weather pattern. It is always satisfying to see such consistent data across our basil, chilli, and oregano beds without any sudden spikes or drops that would require immediate intervention.
