Afternoon Update from Herb Hub 365: July 3, 2026

It has been a bright and warm day in the greenhouse as we move through the first week of July. Temperatures started at a comfortable 21.06°C early this morning and climbed to a peak of 27.33°C by the afternoon. Light levels fluctuated with the passing sun, reaching a maximum of 420 lux and averaging 221.73 lux across the day, ensuring our herbs had plenty of activity under the glass.
As the day warmed up, we observed a steady decrease in humidity, which dropped from a morning high of 51.5% to 40% by late afternoon. The atmospheric pressure remained relatively stable, beginning at 1024 hPa and settling at 1021 hPa. These conditions created a dry, pleasant environment for the plants, though the rising heat certainly kept the sensors busy.
Our basil continues to be the most hydrated resident, holding perfectly steady at 100% soil moisture throughout the entire period. The chilli plants showed a bit more movement; they started the morning at 86.21% moisture and saw a notable increase, ending the afternoon at 93.88%. This suggests the roots are effectively soaking up available resources during the peak growing hours.
The oregano is also maintaining a healthy status, though its moisture levels dipped slightly from a morning start of 95.26% to 93.24% by our last reading. Overall, the greenhouse remains in a very stable state. With the basil fully saturated and the chilli and oregano both well above 90%, our herbs are well-positioned to handle the summer warmth as we head into the evening.
